Passion is a powerful emotion that wells up from inside of us.

Some people may have never felt such a strong feeling and others perhaps have gotten tired, busy or distracted and don’t feel the passion that they once had.

Others live a life that is focused, purposeful and full of passion.

Interestingly, Jesus said that the greatest commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30)

Three things jump out at me from this:

1. This command is all about a relationship, not about “do’s” and “don’ts”
2. This level of “all of your…” really describes passion – all consuming passion
3. This level of passion is not something that we, if we are honest, can even achieve

The great news is that God loves us with this kind of consuming passionate love.  Also when we surrender to him, he changes us inside and gives us just this kind of consuming passion.  Listen to these verses from the Bible and see:

“for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” – Paul’s letter to the Philippians 2:13

We see that God works in us first so that we want to fulfill his good purpose and then second so that we actually do his good purpose.

God keeps working on us until we are complete.  We just need to surrender to his will and allow him to work in our lives.

Complete surrender produces complete passion so we completely fulfill God’s good purpose and so we have complete joy.

Lord Jesus, help us to surrender completely to you, to experience your love fully, to experience your work in us to love you passionately and completely!
